Ms Sonora Dodd, a loving daughter from Spokane first thought of dedicating one day for fathers. Her father Henry Jackson Smart brought up Sonora and her five siblings alone after death of their mother. Experiencing her father’s love, dedication and sacrifices, she thought there should be a day to honour fathers like we have for mothers. In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge first recognized Father’s day and in 1972, President Richard Nixon established a permanent national observance of Father’s day to be held on third Sunday of June.

Now, it is celebrated in almost whole part of the world beyond geographical boundaries to express gratitude for Dads.

Traditionally father is considered to be a provider for family. But in changing scenario where mothers are also working, fathers do not shy away of child rearing job. This culture change is strengthening the bond between father and child and consequently building strong family bonds.
